Description

I put the filter on because of implications of burning, though the action isn't actually shown to any extent, the implication of bodily harm is still there. There's also a bit of nudity,  nothing's really exposed, though I know that is a general thing people might not want shoved into their faces regardless. Also, as a general warning, there's mentions of death in the description down below.

Rebloggable version.

Anybody remember Ignorance and Limerence? Silly question, but ah, now you know where these two come from.

These are two of my old FMA OC's I've just sort of dabbled with lately, been sort of trying to update them at least a little bit. I had actually thought for Ignorance to be completely bald, as I have this image in my head of her going out in public with a short wig and colored glasses, and not having hair and all would make that whole scenario much more practical. But then I realized Homunculi have the ability to regenerate, and I... I don't even know. Does that even extend out to their hair? Either way, until I clear that up, her original hair works fine.

-------------------------------------

The general idea is that Ignorance (now simply known as Felicity) died in a fire and was brought back to life by her brother, an amateur alchemist, who thought he was in the clear with the whole concept of human transmutation. He had come into possession of small red stones that he had mistaken for a variant of a philosopher's stone, only to find that... it wasn't. Even with Felicity's partially burnt body inside the circle, the transmutation took both of his legs, and hadn't Mortimer, his father's home doctor been there to seal the wounds, he would surely have died. Mortimer left the new Felicity to sputter in silence, barely casting a second glance at her hideous form. He came back, armed, to show her at least a bit of mercy in the end, only to find an almost spitting image of Felicity in its stead, with the stones gone.

The reunion was cold, and quiet. Her father was too shaken to say anything, and can't quite muster to look her in the eye.
Her own brother, strangely, barely talks to her after the transmutation. When he awoke after the transmutation, his reaction to seeing Felicity again was muted, to say the least. He spends most of his days in his room, in bed. Any attempts to make contact with him from Felicity's side are either met with low mutters or grunts. He will talk to Mortimer, but avoids his father as best he can.
Mortimer is the only person she really gets to talk to at this point, but he seems much more fascinated with her new state rather than her well-being.

As Felicity starts to regain a sense of self and remember her past life better, she attempts to slip back into her old role. She dons a wig as closely to her old hair color as she can, hoping that her family will at the very least recognize her without the tattoo. If anything, it only seems to make her father angry. Her brother still seems unresponsive.

Eventually, Felicity is done trying to be her old self, and instead takes to travelling, in the hopes to find a new life somewhere else. She writes to her brother about her adventures in the hopes of establishing some kind of contact, but she has yet to receive any replies, no matter how many adresses she leaves at the end of each letter. On one of her travels, she meets an old friend (Limerence), who at this point thinks Felicity is dead. Things get a little hairy for a time while Felicity tries to dance around the subject of her own death, and sticks around longer than she normally would on her travels to keep her friend somewhat at ease, at least to the best of her ability.

Because of her longer stay, Mortimer manages to catch up with her, and shows her research done on the infamous homunculus, so that she can get a better understanding of her new state and her potential, as Mortimer calls it.

She becomes increasingly paranoid about being captured by the military, after a few instances of people pointing out her purple eyes, having to insist that, "I'm telling you, they're blue!" and having people become alarmed at how quickly she can seemingly heal wounds. She feels incredibly vulnerable with all her tattoos and visible regeneration, prompting her to become almost obsessively aware of sharp objects nearby in the presence of people, as well as keep an eye out for her head, should anyone knock her wig off by any measure. She begins wearing patches underneath her wig to conceal the tattoo with one more layer, but it does little to ease her anxiety.

Meanwhile, Limerence (who has actually yet to get an actual name), who received word of Felicity's death, still has difficulties adjusting to her friend suddenly not only being alive, but seemingly a different person altogether. She doesn't necessarily trust Felicity as much as she normally would, but because of her eager-to-please nature and Felicity looking like... well, Felicity, she tends to go back into the old patterns of treating her like her old friend, which can be disorienting for the both of them. Limerence is at the end of her rope and fed up with the entire thing when Felicity asks her, at the height of her paranoia, if she will help burn the homunculus tattoos away. Felicity knows perfectly well she could easily regenerate, and that ability is out of her control, but she is under the delusion that if it killed her, it might be able to resist her regeneration. And with that, perhaps she could breathe a little easier, at least.

--------------------------------------

Can't you just tell Ignorance was always my favorite of the two? Good lord, poor Limerence barely has a paragraph at this point.

It's a little sketchy and rough, but hopefully it's not... too weird or anything. I'd honestly love feedback on this. I don't even know how well this corresponds with canon, to be quite frank.

Together with the well thought out backstory, this is a really complete piece of artwork.  I like your clean lines and the subdued colors; it's not all rainbows and kittens for Felicity/Ignorance.
